Calling the directions and elements:

We call the spirit of the direction of East.  East, the Direction of the element Air.  Air, which breathes life into the fields and our lungs.  Air, which blows fertility from plant to plant.  We call the spirit of the air and ask it to join our circle.

{Individuals silently invoke their personal beliefs as we cleanse with air, feather}

We call the spirit of the direction of South.  South, the direction of the element of fire.  Fire, which brings nutrition and energy to the plants of the field.  Fire, which brings us physical and emotional warmth.  We call the spirit of fire and ask it to join our circle

{Individuals silently invoke their personal beliefs as we cleanse with fire, incense}

We call the spirit of the direction of West.  West, the direction of the element of water.  Water, which sustains the plants of the field.  Water, which cools us and fills us.  We call the spirit of water and ask it to join our circle

{Individuals silently invoke their personal beliefs as we cleanse with water, water drops}

We call the spirit of the direction of North.  North, the direction of the element of earth.  Earth which nourishes the plants of the field.  Earth,  which holds us with strength and stability.  We call the spirit of earth and ask it to join our circle

{Individuals silently invoke their personal beliefs as we cleanse with earth, talc}

Prayer Over The Harvest:

As we enjoy this bountiful harvest, we thank the universal spirit (s).  As we eat, we think of the miracles and blessings that it took to create these foods. We also remember our place in the universe and try to fulfill it. We honor our meal for the spiritual and physical fulfillment that it provides.  May we all have such bounty all the years of our lives.

Elements chant:

Air I am, {beat beat}

Fire I am {beat beat}

Water, earth, and Spirit I am. {beat beat}

{repeat 6 times}

Releasing the elements:

We thank the element of the direction of North.  The element of Earth.  We thank you for your presence in our circle and in our hearts.  As we close this circle we release you from our conscious thoughts.  You are always present, yet often unseen.

{individuals release personal elemental spirits}

We thank the element of the direction of West.  The element of Water.  We thank you for your presence in our circle and in our hearts.  As we close this circle we release you from our conscious thoughts.  You are always present, yet often unseen.

{individuals release personal elemental spirits}

We thank the element of the direction of South.  The element of Fire.  We thank you for your presence in our circle and in our hearts.  As we close this circle we release you from our conscious thoughts.  You are always present, yet often unseen.

CHURCH OF THE EARTH OF NC

MABON GATHERING

(Harvest festival)- Saturday Sept 20th 3pm

Join the Church of the Earth as we celebrate Mabon.

Mabon is the second (2nd) of the three (3) harvest festivals, usually celebrated as a huge fair or party for the farmers to get together and enjoy the plenty their work has brought. This autumnal equinox festival celebrates the changes of the season and life in general. This year’s Mabon festival will be Saturday Sept 20th at 3pm. Bring something harvested to eat in circle (grains, fruits and veggies), and a food donation of nonperishable/ canned foods for the food bank of NC. As always, feel free to bring drums for drumming, or other musical instruments if you desire. Magickal or medieval / renaissance dress always enhances festivals, so feel free to dress up (changing rooms and facilities are available on site.) Pets and children are welcome if well controlled.

Each ritual at COTE contains the following:

Cleansing of the people and/or area.

Call of the four (4) quarters / elements.

Brief chant or song

Guided meditation

Holiday specific activity

Discussion / presentation of alternative beliefs for specific holiday

Sharing or transforming activity

A time for socializing with each other

This year’s ritual will be a joining with the harvest elements.  We will call the quarters as usual, but the calls will have harvest related prayers within them.  We will have a light chant to the elements.  We will then each create a personal altar of harvest items for symbolic prayer.  Finally we will join with the elements by eating part of the harvest items on our altar.  We will close with a prayer for bountiful harvest and favorable weather.  And finally we will close the circle.  After the gathering those that wish to will gather at a nearby restaurant (Cracker Barrel) for a loose social and evening meal.
